Netflix Sandman, and Calliope

Watching the Calliope bonus episode made me laugh so much because I could just feel that there were some very specific digs coming out from people who knew a lot about the writing and showrunning process.
Madoc's on Reddit and Twitter and Instagram and Twitter (but not Tumblr or Tiktok or Youtube - who decided what social media he was into?), he's pointedly seeking out streaming opportunities and is compared to JK Rowling, he's still calling himself a feminist writer like in the 80s but now he's ALSO engaging in casting tokenism. Like, having him call for a cast & crew of 50% women & people of color while right in front of Calliope who is locked up in his house (and is not exactly paper-white herself.) feels like a blisteringly pointed shot at the industry. Raising diversity for brownie points without actually reducing abusive practices or in this case literal sexual abuse (They dodge around it a lot in the TV show - IDK if I would fully be aware Madoc was also a rapist if it was happening if I had not read the comics). I think "Ric" Madoc does think he's an antiracist and a feminist though. Arthur Darvill sells that really well.
And not related to any of the above, it's really trippy to stop every five minutes and go "I know that actor!"
