30 Day Dragon Age OC Challenge - 2019 Edition!

Now updated for uniformity, completeness, and looking nice on Dreamwidth. Spoilers for all main games and the Trespasser DLC.

This meme/challenge was explicitly designed for original characters (OCs) who are either a Warden, Hawke, or Inquisitor, but if you want to use it for someone else, we’re hardly going to stop you. You’ll find the full body of the questions/prompts below. The name’s a bit long for a tag, so we suggest using #30dayDAchallenge.


Day 1: Introduction: Describe your OC in 140 characters. Now have them describe themself in 140 characters. Also provide any of the basic biographical stats you wish: full name, age, pronouns, gender, class/specializations, etc.

Day 2: Physical Status: Briefly describe your OC’s physical appearance. Are they able-bodied or disabled? Are they comfortable with their looks/body, or do they wish their body was different? Do they have any significant scars? How fit are they?

For the Warden: What is their experience of the Taint? The Joining? Does the Taint affect them physically, either during the Blight or after?

For the Inquisitor: What is their experience with the Anchor? If/when they lose their hand, how does that go? How do they handle it afterwards?

Day 3: Race: Talk about your OC’s race. How do they define their race? What influence does it have on their identity? What is their experience of their history & community?

For the elves: If they’re a city elf, what do they think of the Dalish? Do they even believe they exist? If they’re Dalish, what do they think of city elves? (If they are a Surana who doesn't remember their past, feel free to answer both!)

For the dwarves: If they’re a surfacer, what do they think of dwarves from Orzammar or kalnas? If they’re from Orzammar, what do they think of surfacers? Do they (surfacer or Orzammar) believe Kal’Sharok exists?

For the qunari/kossith: How do they relate to loyal Qunari? To Tal-Vashoth? To viddathari/converts?

Day 4: Mind Matters: Briefly describe your OC’s mental state. Are they neurotypical or neuroatypical? Do they have any mental illnesses or history with mental illness? How do they handle stress?

Day 5: Sexuality: Describe how you think about your OC’s sexuality. How would they talk about their sexuality/sexual inclinations or lack thereof?

Day 6: Pocketses, Precious: What’s in your OC’s pockets/purse/backpack? What do they carry around day to day?

Day 7: Fighting 1 – Methods: Does your OC fight? Is your OC good at fighting? Do they have a lot of combat experience? What is their fighting style? Favourite weapon/spell/move? Favorite way to kill?

Day 8: Fighting 2 – Morality: What does your OC think about fighting/violence as a solution to problems? What was the first time they killed someone? What fight do they have nightmares about?

Day 9: Social Status: What is your OC’s social status? What sort of education did they receive? How do they interact with people from a higher social class? From a lower class?

Day 10: Politics: Let’s talk politics. What are your OC’s political opinions? (Ideas for topics: slavery, mage freedom, Templars, Chantry as political power, elven segregation/oppression, dwarven castes, Tevinter, etc.) What issues do they prioritize, and what issues do they ignore?

Day 11: Magic: How did your OC first learn about magic/how was it introduced to them? Is magic frightening? Foreign? Familiar? What do they associate with magic? What do they think of the Fade?

Day 12: Religion: Is your OC religious? If so, what do they believe? How pious are they? If they’re not Andrastian, how do they deal with Andrastians/the Chantry? Have they ever had a big or important religious experience?

For Hawke: What do they think of Grand Cleric Elthina? The destruction of the Kirkwall Chantry?

For the Inquisitor: How do they react to being proclaimed the Herald of Andraste? What do they think about the Well of Sorrows? Mythal? The Evanuris/Creators? Fen’Harel?

Day 13: Values: How does your OC define “good” and “evil”? “Right” and “wrong”? What are your OC’s priorities? What’s the first thing they consider when making a decision?

Day 14: Limits: Is there a Cause or Ideal that your OC would sacrifice everything for? Almost everything? What wouldn’t they sacrifice? What lines will they never cross?

Day 15: Choices: What choices does your OC make in the main quests of their game? Why? What is the hardest decision they make?

Day 16: Consequences: What in-game event(s) had the biggest impact on your OC (main plot or otherwise)? Why did it affect them so strongly? How did they change?

Day 17: Contrition: Is there any choice that your OC regrets? What would they do differently, if they could?

Day 18: Companions: Who was your OC’s first friend among their companions? Who ends up being their best friend? Who do they hate the most (or like the least)? Is there anyone they don’t recruit? Is there anyone they dismiss or lose after recruiting?

For the Warden: What was their relationship with the companion(s) from their Origin?

For Hawke: What is their relationship with their siblings?

Day 19: Courtship: Does your OC get involved romantically or sexually with anybody? When do they first fall for them or get involved? If they fall in love, when does it happen? Does the relationship last?

For the aromantic or uninvolved: Do they have a serious platonic relationship with anyone? How does it begin? Does it last?

Day 20: Conclusion: How did your OC want their story to end? How did it actually end? Do they get a happily ever after?

Day 21: Coda: How do they change after their story? What is their “epilogue” like? Is it different from canon?

For the Warden: If they did not sacrifice themself, what do they do during Awakening? Do they stay on as Warden-Commander afterwards?

For Hawke: What do they do between the end of DA2 and Here Lies the Abyss? Do they stay in the Fade or not?

For the Inquisitor: What do they do during Trespasser? Is the Inquisition disbanded or retained as part of the Chantry? What do they decide on the Solas Issue?

Day 22: Home: What does ‘home’ mean to your OC? Where have they lived in their life, and who with?

Day 23: Childhood: What was your OC’s childhood like? Who was their childhood best friend? What’s their best memory? Worst memory?

Day 24: Food: What is your OC’s relationship with food? Have they always had enough to eat? Have they ever had problems with disordered eating? Do they have any food allergies or intolerances? What food has the strongest or fondest memories attached to it?

Day 25: Downtime: What does your OC do in their downtime? Do they drink, gamble, play cards? Visit brothels, go to the Chantry, go to plays/operas? Read? Other stuff?

Day 26: Skills: What non-combat skills does your OC have? What skill does your OC lack that they wish they had? Can they lick their elbow?

Day 27: Love and Hate: What does your OC always enjoy? What can they absolutely not stand?

Day 28: Demons: What type of demon is your OC most vulnerable to? How would it attack/manipulate them? What type of demon is your OC most likely to attract the attention of? Which type of demon are they least vulnerable to?

Day 29: Three Wishes: If your OC had three wishes, what would they wish for? (No wishing for more wishes!)

Day 30: Free Day!: Is there anything about your OC you wanted to say but didn’t? Their favorite outfit? What their Pokemon team would be? Which Hogwarts house they’d be in? Tell everyone about it! (Can be anything at all, serious or not!)
