Normally, I would go haring off into the unknown after completing a main quest in BotW. But in TotK, I have several very specific things to do in Lookout Landing, starting with checking on that stable and seeing if they know any Hudson Co guys who can do some bridge building. So it's off to Lookout Landing, and past that, Eldin!

On the way to Lookout Landing, I encountered Penn twice - once at Snowfield Stable, where Princess Zelda's golden horse has gone missing, evidently at her coaxing, and once at New Serenne, where he doubled down on the rumors of her riding a giant... something in Faron that I heard about on my way up. There are definitely critters down there. I also took a quick look back at the Forgotten Temple, and there's definitely seven rocks there. So why did the Rito guy say six sages? Hrm.

When I got back to Lookout Landing, it had changed! The stable is almost ready to go and there's a big chunk of something in the pond. A little Ultrahand fixes the stable, and Karson heads off. But the quest isn't complete. Looks like I ought to go back. The translator is heading to Kakariko, apparently spurred on by the rock in the pond, so here's hoping I can finally learn some ancient Hyrulean. Also, there's a big hole in the wall of our emergency shelter, which isn't great. And the Sheikah janitor thinks it wants to kill her, which isn't great either. And there's a mysterious voice. So overall, not great.

As the hero of Hyrule, it is my duty to kick the ass of any demons lying around terrorizing innocent people. Even if I only have seven hearts. Into the tunnel! Not very far though. It's FULL of rocks. This, I will learn, is going to be a trend. But first: the soul-eating demon turns out to be the stats-redistribution demon from Hateno, who, in its classic move, steals a heart. I get back a stamina container instead, and now I have a second full stamina wheel. Nice!

But also, the tunnel keeps going. And somewhere at the end of it, there is a Bubbulfrog. So now I'm on a mission.

Pro tip: if you're going to do this, bring some food. The tunnel is long. This game is very considerate about putting rusty claymores in the rocks, so that helps. I think I went through about a dozen of those Rusty Claymore rock sledges? As well as sturdy sticks, which is my preference for hammers (Sturdy Thick Stick + Horriblin Horn). The enemies got progressively tougher each time - I fought my first black horriblin (they're actually mostly yellow, it's quite the misnomer) and excavated a whole-ass Stalnox.

But very handily, in three different detours, I got the Soldier's gear! Finally something metal that survived the Upheaval. Each piece is guarded by a Like-Like. First is the greaves, guarded by a normal Like Like, then the helm, guarded by an Ice Like, finally the chestpiece, guarded by a Fire Like. All the way at the end is the Bubbulfrog. And then I came up in Hyrule Castle, in a tower covered in enemies including my first blue lizalfos, and a plaque by King Rauru saying that the castle was built so no one would disturb the site of Ganondorf's sealing. So uh. Sorry about that?

Okay. That detour's over with. Next time: Eldin! For real!

I loved that cave! I went into it and immediately did the Pro Gamer Move of "check all side passages before following the weird voice" except, of course, the side passages turned out to be, like, that 🤣 I had a lot of bomb flowers tho, so that helped
