The last time I had an adventuring buddy in Hyrule, I spent all my time whistling at him like a horse. This is much better.
Tulin's a walking fan with a bow, and endless spirit. I love him to bits, and he's quite useful in fighting enemies! That's particularly useful since the Rising Island Chain is covered with Zonai enemies, and tall. So tall it's got two shrines on it, in case you fall or need to take a break. I'm so glad I have my glide shirt (one of the things I got on the way to the Forgotten Temple). The bouncy boats are a very cool mechanic, and I love that you can ascend through their top sails in case you misjudge a jump. But oh my god is this a tall sequence. There's also quite a few places with frozen ice. Most of the time there's not much there, but I live in hope of chests.
And there's a new type of boss monster - the Flux Construct! It's like some ultrahand-fused cube nightmare, and I'm so glad I was fighting it with Tulin. Little guy actually did a fair bit of damage while I kited around. And it dropped a core - which I fused with a Zonai sword for a 22-power weapon? Shit of COURSE you can fuse with the monster cores. Next time I fight a Talus, I am so doing that.
Past the second shrine is when things start getting properly chilly, though my ruby rod and abundance of spicy food are enough to keep me properly warm. Bounce-bounce-bounce. And of course the Stormwind Ark is the biggest, baddest boat around (a galley, I guess with the oars). Riddled with constructs and white chuchus. I spent quite a lot of time trying to stuff myself down the cannon on the deck before I realized it was tracking me, and it was not supposed to launch me. It wanted to kill me.
I like how the sage power is key to unlocking the terminal-analogues to the final boss. Turbines in this case. I love the use of Ascend and Ultrahand. I am less of a fan of how long it took me to notice the bouncy boat I needed to get the last turbine going. But when I opened the hatch, something did come out - a deeps firefly from hell. The technical term is a Colgera but mostly what I called it was high-pitched screaming noise. Way too many teeth, too many wings, spikes everywhere, do not like. And on its belly, three frozen ice ponds. I know what to do with those.
Given the weird angle and also being constantly in air and not wanting to touch all the spikes, the proper strategy appeared to be fire fruit-arrows in slowmo. This was a lot of fun, and Tulin's power remained useful as I tried to dodge in midair away from the gnashing jaws of the Colgera why does it have portals -
But we lived! And Tulin's ancestor (I don't think we caught the name) emerged to dole out more exposition. Most of what he mentioned, we knew. But he says there were six sages. I distinctly remember seven statues in the Forgotten Temple. What's that about?
And he names Zelda as the Sage of Time, and a combatant in the first Imprisonment War against Ganondorf.
I don't think we're getting her back for a while.
