aubergion: a glowing blue blupee, an owl-faced feather-eared rabbit creature (blupee)

Normally, I do try to not read people's personal diaries. However, Riju's diary is the only thing I can find in Gerudo Town, so this time, I'll make an exception. Apparently, she's gone off to practice Urbosa's lightning power, which she's inherited some variation of. I do wonder how common the incidence of lightning powers is among the Gerudo.

Also, I suspect she's the Sage of (Fire? ...Lightning?) so there's that. I love her redesign, with the shorter hair and double scimitars. She's about the same height as Link, and I'd guess probably around the same age as Link and Zelda in BotW (minus 100 years of stasis) - so around 17 or 18. This really solidifies for me that it's been about five or six years since BotW - i.e. the same amount of time passed in and out of universe between games. Love when devs do that! Her power is "when Link shoots an arrow in this expanding radius, lightning strikes the target", which is pretty neat. And the yellow glow + voice confirms her as Sage.

Also, the Gerudo are apparently being plagued by something called Gibdos. A Gibdo is basically a dessicated zombie, with a weird little vertical ant mouth, that emerge from glowing purple mushroom sacs. Thankfully, they're very vulnerable to lightning, as I discover at the defense of Kara Kara Bazaar, and then Gerudo Town, which has one of my favorite video game mechanics, the placing of allies to fight for you. And a significantly less favorite mechanic of flying moth Gibdos. Not loving that!

Not related to anything, but I feel like I can hear a hint of the original Japanese pronunciation when Riju's VA says "Gerudo". Anyways, there turns out to be an underground shelter where everyone's hiding now that Gerudo Town is a wreck covered in sand, and inside there are several quests - a stelae photography quest much less irritating than the Zora one, which I actually never completed, a light beam puzzle in a cave like the Starview Sphere, subterranean access via well to the Gerudo Secret Club (which is actually my first time there as well! I finished my Desert Voe set) and the return of the seven-plus-one Gerudo heroines.

Also, there's a mural, describing another light puzzle. Behind the throne, three red towers united in light... I suspect the Starview Sphere was a good place to go before coming to the desert. The first tower is just barely visible, and from there, I see a tower to the left. The problem is that this is the third tower, and there's no way to turn the first tower to point to it. Which means the first tower must already be pointing in the right direction. Which it is, but it's been lowered. So it's raise the second tower, turn the third, to create a perfect triangle...

And in the center, something arises from the sand. I wonder what that is.
