Tears of the Kingdom: Upside Down and Backwards

Wow, have I not updated in nearly a month? Time flies. I'm building a computer, I've fallen head first into Good Omens book fandom again partially out of spite and am furiously rereading fics from 2010.....

Also I've been stuck for like three weeks, so there's that.

I did get my tunic, and did confront Yiga Zelda, though unfortunately I did it all out of order again and had to backtrack five times in order to follow the route she wanted me to.

This is going to be a pattern.

Anyways, the Sages showed up and helped me defeat the Phantom Ganons, which was a lovely moment. This is my favorite part of Tears of the Kingdom, honestly. Breath of the Wild is a lovely game, but part of what makes it so striking is the feeling of loneliness. Of it just being you and your horse, a voice in the distance and a wide open road. But in Tears of the Kingdom, allies are everywhere. They remember what I did for them. When I went to fight Ganon last time, I had to dredge up every diamond I could find from the four corners of Hyrule to take the Champions' weapons into battle so I could watch their ghosts disappear.

Now, the Sages are here. They're flesh and blood and here. No number of phantom Ganons can stand against that.

Once that's dealt with, it's back to Purah, who tells me to scout out Zonai ruins in locations outside of the core four domains (Hebra, Gerudo, Eldin, Lanayru). Well, I know where that is. I've actually been there before.

No dice. It's still pouring. I'm going vaguely up, but beyond that, I have no fucking clue. A solid hour of bashing my head against solid rock, I leave.I'm sure I could brute force my way to the eye of the storm if I wanted, but I'm honestly not having fun right now, and there' s still other things to do. I chase down Kohga, I get the Bargainers beneath the Goddess statues, I keep warping back to stormland but nothing changes. What am I supposed to do? Well there is one part of the map I haven't explored. When I went to Gerudo, I went straight over the mountains from Tabantha. When I left, I rode Farosh to the Great Plateau. I have no idea what's in that canyon. And according to the NPCs at Outskirt Stable, there are some of the biggest Zonai ruins in Hyrule there.

I know, I know. Try not to laugh.

The Zonai ruins aren't great. The scene is different, sure, but I'm not seeing anything plot shaped despite shaking down every passing traveler. Then I see someone from the Survey Team, who mentions they're going to Kakariko next. Kakariko... where the Ring Ruins are. Where Yiga Zelda explicitly stopped me from entering. But she's gone now. So I can go in oh Goddess Hylia I'm a dumbass -

I'm sure if Real Zelda could see me now, she'd be facepalming so hard. Anyways, Kakariko points me to the Wellspring of Courage, the Wellspring tells me to cosplay, and the cosplay takes me to the cleared-up Thunderhead Isles. Now that's more like it. No more sequence breaking like with Sidon. We're going to do this right.

Mineru, here I come.
